It's easy to return to the same lodging you've stayed at in the past, because it's familiar and you know what to expect. But isn't it fun to venture out, especially now that there are so many reviews available online? (www.tripadvisor.com)

The Crested Butte and Gunnison areas don't have any "bad" areas of town. It's so different here from big cities, and that's the charm of the lodging here. There are lots of very clean, accommodating hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts with very friendly people running them. Most of them are family-owned and -operated. And, of course, they want your repeat business!

Here are some questions to ask:

• Do you have cribs? (Most hotels and property management companies do. If they don't have a crib, call Mommy & Me at 970-348-5855.
• Are you near a park?
• Do you have a pool? A kid friendly hot tub? (Hot tubs are not recommended for babies.)
• How many stories does the building have? Is there an elevator?
• Are you on the bus route (Mt. Crested Butte/Crested Butte only)
• Is there a restaurant in the hotel? Do you have room service? Do you serve continental breakfast?
• Do you have a babysitter list? (If they don't, check our Babysitting Section in this magazine.)
• What kid friendly amenities do you have? (Games, videos, game room, internet/wireless, etc.)
