Where to Park Your Vehicle We struggle with the same parking issues here as any town does. It's
summertime, so it's a great time to get out and walk! In Crested Butte
and in Gunnison the roads are shared with bicyclists and pedestrians.
With so many walking, that means heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
According to Colorado state law, pedestrians have the right of way in
a crosswalk, so cars need to stop for them. And bicyclists must abide
by the same laws as motorists. Be aware, not matter how you're moving
around. Abide by parking signs. (Winter parking regulations are very different from summer.) Public Parking
Suggestion: Park and use an "umbrella stroller" for moving around town in the summer. Mt. Crested Butte Mt. Crested Butte is a wonderful place and the ski area base boasts great shopping, eateries. The chair lift ride is a must do! There are fabulous bike trails on Mt. Crested Butte in the Gold Link area that the whole family can enjoy. The best way to experience Mt. Crested Butte is to park in town and ride the bus up there. You can bring your bikes with you on the bus bike rack, or rent some when you get there. Major construction is happening there this summer and parking close to the ski area base is minimal.

Maps It's a good idea to have maps of hiking trails, biking trails, and a forest service map. Sporting goods stores carry excellent maps of the area, and there are many maps available for free at the Chambers of Commerce in Gunnison and Crested Butte. A Forest Service Map is a must-have for hiking. If you are venturing to Hartman Rocks, a map is highly recommended. Hartman Rocks Trail and Bouldering Map Satellite Image 2nd Edition, by Dave Kozlowski has been described as "far and away the best map of Hartman Rocks." It gives a visual of where you are.
