Miscellaneous Need To Know Information
Travelers may not be aware that there are not many “conveniences” here in the high country – which is the beauty of it! Be prepared for first aid, pharmaceuticals, and groceries. I can’t think of anything that’s open 24 hours.
Colorado Road Information
For road closures, conditions and construction information visit www.cotrip.org or call 1-877-315-7623.

Where To Get Groceries
The large “big box” grocery stores are in Gunnison (Safeway and City Market). If you are driving, you can stop in Gunnison for your groceries and then head to Tincup, Crested Butte, Lake City, Almont, etc. from there. Safeway, located on Hwy 50, has a butcher on site and an excellent meat department. City Market, located on Hwy 135 has a good produce section. You may need dry ice for frozen goods and meats. Be aware that your ice cream and other groceries may “enlarge” and spill over as you gain elevation.
Organic groceries are available in the Town of Crested Butte at Mountain Earth Whole foods, which is located just off Elk Ave. (the main street in Crested Butte). On Fourth St. (404 4th St. open 8 to 8 daily, (970) 349-5132).
There is also an organic grocery store in Gunnison in the strip mall by City Market called Gunnison Vitamin off of Hwy 135.
There is a service for GROCERIES ONLY (no delivery of pizza, etc.) called Ramone’s Delivery (970) 349-1629. He grocery shops for you and delivers it to your condo/home prior to your arrival for a fee. You can fax or e-mail your grocery list to him. Initial contact is by calling him.
Groceries are available in the Town of Crested Butte at Clark’s Market, located at the entrance to town off of Hwy 135 (now Sixth St.) and Whiterock St.
Pharmacies
There are only two public pharmacies in Gunnison County – both located in Gunnison.
Neither are open 24 hours.
• City Market - (970) 641-6397
• Wal-Mart – (970) 641-1145
Some doctor offices provide pharmaceuticals to their patients.
Where To Do Laundry
Hint: Travel with a “stain stick”. Rub it onto stains while you travel. Until you have a chance to wash clothes, it will help minimize staining.
Check with your hotel/property management company. Most have laundry facilities available.
• CB Laundry – 615 Teocalli, Crested Butte (970) 349-0582
• High Country Laundry – 700 N. Main St., Gunnison (970) 641-6374
• High Country West Laundry – 221 W. Hwy 50, Gunnison (970) 641-6374

Parking, Bicyclists, And Pedestrians
We struggle with the same parking issues here as every town does. It’s summertime, so it’s a great time to get out and walk! In Crested Butte and in Gunnison the roads have heavy bicycle and pedestrian traffic. According to Colorado state law, pedestrians have the right of way in a crosswalk; cars need to stop for them. Bicyclists must abide by the same laws as motorists.
Parking rules are posted on the streets. Abide by the signs.
Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Shuttle
The Mountain Express runs daily between Mt. Crested Butte and Crested Butte and runs every 20 minutes. The first departure is from Mountaineer Square on Mt. Crested Butte from 10 am running until 7:40 pm. The frequency shifts to every 40 minutes starting at 7:40 pm until midnight. It is a free service.
