Kid Friendly Shopping

Shopping is fun and is a great way to take a break from skiing for a day. Gunnison and Crested Butte both have fabulous independently owned unique shops.
Our advertisers represent the best in children's shopping in the area. If you are going to bring your children shopping with you, be sure to bundle them up in layers. You can't add more clothes later if you don't have them to begin with! (Of course, you could always buy more layers while you shop!) The best selection of kid ski clothes is at The Slope on Elk Ave. downtown Crested Butte. All Sports Replay in Gunnison is a shop that the kids enjoy, especially teenagers. Some stores have toy boxes: Ask when you enter.

Monitor your child's temperature: Check to see if he or she is sweating and hot, or shivering and cold. The temperature degree changes here are quick and extreme. The usual sunscreen application and eye protection rules apply. Be aware of the two-hour parking limit in downtown Gunnison and Crested Butte.

Innovative Shopping

Former US World Pro Ski racer and US Ski Team member Steve Lathrop has developed innovative products for teaching the very young to ski. The KID-SKI products and KID-SKI Learning Progression grew as a direct result from teaching his own kids to ski very quickly at a very young age. He created the Super Kiddie Bar, a truly wonderful device for skiing, ice-skating, inline-skating and roller-skating with toddlers and preschoolers. After graduating from Harvard Business School with an MBA, Mr. Lathrop founded Apple Rise Sports, under which all of the products are produced, marketed, and distributed.
